Day 1, Arrival
After picking you up from the airport we take you to your first accommodation in northern outskirts of Windhoek, where we will enjoy a scrumptious breakfast. Afterwards you take over your bikes and are able to take a first short tour on gravel. Of course we also want to get to know you better, want to learn more about your wishes and expectations and will have a few words on the routing and “rules” regarding the tour. In the evening we will either drive into town for dinner or, depending on the group’s decision, have ourselves spoiled in the restaurant at your accommodation.
Day 2, Windhoek - Camp Gecko 200 km
The tarred road ends a few kilometres outside Windhoek and we continue our south-wetsren journey on graded gravel roads. Through the Khomas-Hochland we drive on this plateau towards its western escarpment, which at the same time forms the border to the foothills of the Namib Desert to east. The steep hairpins of nthe Spreetshoogte Pass lead us several hundred metres down. Our destination today is Camp Gecko. Here the Enduro Namibia upfront-team has already put up our camp.
Day 3, Camp Gecko - Lovedale 310 km
From Camp Gecko we ride to Solitaire. Here we fill up our tanks and continue south along the eastern boundaries of the Namib. The surface consists of wide, well maintained gravel roads. While we can see the open plains of the desert to our right, the mountain ranges of the Namibian escarpment arise to our left. At the foot of the Naukluft- and Tsaris Mountains we ride to the Lovedale campsite.
Day 4, Lovedale - Fish River Canyon 300 km
From our campsite in the Tsaris Mountains we ride to the Fish River Canyon today. After all it is the second largest gorge in the world - after the Grand Canyon in the USA - that evolved through the force of a river course. In the vicinity of the Fish River beautifully situated scenic view points give amazing views into the Canyon below. The Canyon Roadhouse is an agreeable place to relax at the end of the day and has a very comfortable bar.
Day 5, Fish River Canyon - Augrabies Falls 410 km
From the Fish River Canyon we continue to another impressive natural spectacle - the falls of the Orange River at Augrabies. They are amongst the sixth largest falls in the world. We cross the Orange River at Onseepkans and once on the other side of the Orange we find ourselves in the Republic of South Africa. Normally the border formalities are problem-free. From here we have to travel another 150 km to today's destination. We stay over at a beautiful campsite in the Augrabies National Park.
Day 6, Augrabies Falls - Calvinia 400 km
Today we ride southwards through the Great Karoo. This vast veldt-landscape with its very low precipitation belongs to one of the largest sheep farming areas worldwide. Long before we reach our destination the Hantams Mountain, a large table mountain, emerges in front of us. At its foot we find the small village of Calvinia, which welcomes us after a long day in the veldt. Here we spend the night at a friendly rest camp.
Day 7, Calvinia - Merweville 330 km
We continue through the open veldt. The landscape changes bit by bit however and becomes more mountainous. The further we travel southwards, the more the landscape loses its veldt character. The gravel roads lead us across wonderful mountain passes and in between these amazing routes some rivers await us. Our destination today is the Springbok Lodge in Merweville.
Day 8, Merweville - Calitzdorp 275 km
Today one of the most appealing routes awaits us.On our tour so far we have experienced new and unique landscapes every day, which are unforgettable - so the expectations are high. Still: The Gankas Gorge in the Swartberg Mountains is again a new , breathtaking riding experience. Via the Swartberg Pass we continue to our destination. We follow a mountain range along the course of a small river until we reach the Calitzdorp Dam. From here it is only a few kilometres to the camp.
Day 9, Calitzdorp - Knysna 270 km
Until now our tour has taken us through the most typical landscape of southern Africa - the open savannah. Only 1% of South Africa's surface is covered by forests. Our destination today is the region with the most extensive and densest woodlands. We close in on Knysna on the beautiful road crossing the Outeniqua Mountains and Prince Alfred's Pass. Hard to imagine: Up to today individual elephants roam these dense forests. Our tented camp is situated at Knysna's Lagoon and thus we will see waters of the Indian Ocean for the first time.
Day 10, Knysna - Witsand Camping 310 km
From Knysna we follow the Old Passes Road to the west. This road, partly on gravel, leads through dense forest, steep gorges and over narrow bridges to George. George lies very picturesquely at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains and is the main town of the famous Garden Route. We follow this route to Mossel Bay where we have lunch with view on the ocean. We travel along the coastal road until we reach our campsite.
Day 11, Witsand Camping - Hermanus 265 km
On our way along the coast and before our lunch break we reach the most southern point of the African continent, which of course is also the most southern point of our trip - Cape Agulhas. Here the Indian and the Atlantic Ocean meet. So now we continue along the Atlantic on small gravel roads until we reach Hermanus.
Day 12, Hermanus - Kapstadt 285 km
The last day of riding provides us with 220 coastal kilometres. The Cape of Good Hope lies on our way. Having passed the Cape, Chapman's Peak, a world famous scenic route, not only for bike riders, awaits us. Is there a better route for the last day of riding after 3000 kilometres on african roads?
Day 13, Kapstadt
The last day is dedicated to Cape Town, for many one of the most beautiful cities in the world, on par with Rio de Janeiro or San Francisco.
